the essential Our Sustainable Development Barometer set up by Odoxa for SAP and La Dépêche du Midi, on the occasion of the opening of the COP 26 from Glasgow, measures what the French expect. They predict failure in Glasgow and demand from the presidential candidates strong action on the environment and sustainable development.
End of the world and end of the month
“This perceived failure will weigh heavily on the campaign because 7 French people out of will make the environment a major issue in their vote for the presidential election. Women, higher socio-professional categories (CSP +), young people, and inhabitants of the western frontage of the territory will be the most numerous to make the environment an important issue in their vote. But this importance is not understood by the policies: for 6 French people on , environmental and sustainable development issues are insufficiently mentioned in the presidential campaign, ”explains Gaël Sliman.
“At a time when purchasing power is THE priority, the French no longer oppose the end of the world and the end of the month. For them, we must pursue bold environmental policies because for 6 French people on (55% in Occitanie) environmental policies are not incompatible with growth and employment ”, details our barometer, which underlines that the French are 9 on to say that they are both “concerned” and “ready to act” for the future of the planet, and are ready to take concrete action by changing their daily lives. 86% of French people thus ensure that they are careful to limit the environmental or societal impact of their way of life, 22% systematically (24% in Occitania). They limit their carbon footprint (60%), preserve biodiversity in their purchasing behavior (60%) often or even systematically ensure to buy local (69%), to favor recycled products (61%) and to take into account environmental labels (26%) or Nutriscore (55%).
Suffice to say that there is a strong expectation among the French to see what proposals the presidential candidates will make on the environment and sustainable development. 70% of Occitans and 69% of New Aquitans indicate that the environment will be an important issue in their vote.
