Massacre of the monks of Tibhirine: the last surviving monk is dead

Four years after the slaughter of the Tibhirine monastery, Father Jean-Pierre Schumacher had settled in Morocco where he had become the prior of a less Trappist community of the Cistercian Order in the Moroccan Atlas.
In 1996, seven months of the Tibhirine monastery had been removed. Their decapitated heads were found on a road two months after their abduction. A statement from the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) announced their assassination, in the midst of civil war in Algeria. Twenty-five after the massacre, the circumstances of the Tibhirine massacre have still not been clarified. An investigation by the French justice system had pointed out the troubled role of the Algerian secret services.
