the essential Alongside Benabar, Sansévérino, Kosh and Boris Bergman, Julien Lepers is the guest of the 18 th edition of the Verbe festival which takes place this weekend in Martres-Tolosane. Interview with the former host of Questions pour un champion.
We know you above all as a TV host but you have also played in the theater, written songs… What facet will you show at the Festival du Verbe?
A little of all that, no doubt! Indeed, I did twenty-three years of radio for RMC or RTL, thirty years of TV … And I have always had a love for words and the French language. I even made it the subject of a book: French mistakes ? Never again! I am the first to make mistakes and it has often happened that viewers of Question s for a champion point them out to me and correct me. Recently, I put on a one-man-show, Danse avec les mots , which I performed for six months in Paris, alone on stage. I will undoubtedly take an extract from it for the carte blanche offered to me by the festival. But twenty minutes is very short!
What interested you in the festival proposal?
I tour a lot but when Dick Annegarn invited me, I gladly accepted. He also defends the song and the French language and I really like Brussels . I am very happy to participate in this festival. And then I rarely have the opportunity to come to the Southwest. I presented Intervilles in the region but I do not know it well… I am going to take advantage of my visit to see some friends and go for a walk.
Yet you were a student at the Sorèze abbey-school?
Indeed, a year between 16 and 17 years. I was a boarder. My parents put me there because I was probably a bit rowdy. I went back there two years ago to attend the concert of Hugues Aufray, a former student like me. There was a crazy world! It was something to enter the school grounds again. I have fond memories of this year.
What are your plans for the coming months?
I have a lot ! Discussions are underway but I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I am still working and traveling around France. My professional life has been very busy. I am happy with everything I have accomplished and what I will do in the future. I am far from having finished. At the same time, I am working on a school project for training in renewable energy professions, on the island of Madagascar. This is an area that interests me a lot.
