Director Roman Polanski indicted for defamation

the essential Roman Polanski was indicted last July for defamation after the filing of a complaint from Charlotte Lewis, a former actress who accuses him of having raped her in the years 1980.

According to BFMTV , the director Roman Polanski was indicted on 23 last July in Paris for defamation after filing a complaint against Charlotte Lewis, a former actress who accuses her of having raped her in the years 1980.

In 2019, Roman Polanski had granted an interview to Paris Match , entitled “I am not a monster”, in which he returned to the rape charges against him. He attacked in particular the actress Charlotte Lewis, who assured in 2010 to have been raped by the director in 1983, at his home in Paris. “You see, the first quality of a good liar is an excellent memory. Charlotte Lewis is always mentioned in the list of my accusers without ever raising these contradictions,” Roman Polanski had declared.

The director had notably quoted the comments made by the actress in 1986 in France-Soir , where she explained that she owed “everything to Roman Polanski, to God and to (her) mother who (brought her) into the world”. According to him, Charlotte Lewis had also mentioned in Paris Match , a few days later, “a story of friendship” between them, or had declared to want to be “the mistress of Polanski” in the British tabloid News of the World in 1999.

As reported by our colleagues, Charlotte Lewis affirms that her words have been distorted and believes she has suffered a smear campaign. The actress thus made the decision to file a defamation complaint.
